Love of Diagrams
Love of Diagrams have long held a special place in the hearts of many. Since their 2003 debut, The Target is You, Antonia Sellbach (bass/vocal), Luke Horton (guitar/vocal) and Monika Fikerle (drums) have turned the Australian music scene on it’s head, setting the precedent for a new brand of inventive, flexible, and inquisitive music, overstepping the worn path of ‘usual’ rock and roll. This was also reflected on international stages, and 2007 saw the release of their second LP Mosaic on the indie giant, Matador. Abruptly, afar a major financial crisis, structural changes within their label led to a termination of their contract and found them back in Australia, where they released their incredible third album Nowhere Forever via Remote Control. But if there is one element consistent throughout the band’s career, it’s that they never stop working. The past 5 years have seen them fly to Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio studio in Chicago and record their fourth full-length record, the aptly titled Blast. They then returned home to Melbourne, where they mixed and mastered Blast with John Lee (Lost Animal, Ancients) at Phaedra Studios. Blast is a raw and sonic onslaught in true Diagrams fashion, twisting and turning, before tumbling into a labyrinth of beautiful, soaring guitar tone and rich, grooving bass.
